The Hungry Stream: Essays on Emigration and Famine [Ireland]

Price: £8.00

The Famine was the greatest disaster in Irish history. Starvation compelled a million men, women and children to leave Ireland to seek a new life in other countries. To mark the sesquicentenary of the onset of the crisis the Ulster American FolkPark hosted an international conference on Famine migration. This volume contains the essays presented at the conference. It examines the experience of migrants to America, Australia , Canada, South Africa and Britain. It also examines the fate of those left behind.

Edited by E. Margaret Crawford, The Centre for Emigration Studies & The Institute of Irish Studies The Queen's University of Belfast 1997 221 pages PB ISBN 0853896747
